What are dental implants?
A dental implant is a permanent tooth replacement that provides an exceptionally lifelike restoration for your smile. Dental implants replace both the root and crown of the missing tooth, and with proper care, can last a lifetime. Because implants are very versatile, they can be used to replace just one tooth, a few missing teeth, or all of your teeth.
What is the dental implant process?
The process for dental implants in Tulsa, Oklahoma, typically involves three or four main steps.
- The first step is a consultation with our oral surgeon, Dr. Daniel Cannon. Dr. Cannon will help you determine whether dental implants are the right choice for restoring your smile after tooth loss. If you are a good candidate for implants, we will plan out your treatment.
- The implant post, which is usually created from biocompatible titanium, is surgically placed in the jawbone. A period of healing allows the bone and implant to bond together for a h3 foundation. During this time, you will wear a temporary restoration.
- During the second phase of surgery, we uncover the dental implants from beneath the gums and attach a small post, called an abutment, that will anchor the artificial tooth. In some cases, this phase can be eliminated for a more streamlined treatment.
- Finally, the dental implant restoration (artificial tooth) is attached to your implant. This restores your ability to chew, speak and eat normally as well as the beauty of your smile. Based on which teeth are missing, your implant restoration may be a dental crown, a dental bridge or a denture.
